How the index is built

NearMetal indexes systems software roles from company career sources and sends one weekly issue. It is not an employer, a recruiter, or an application processor.

The inclusion test

A role qualifies when it involves designing, implementing, or debugging software close to an operating system, a hardware interface, a runtime, a protocol, a storage engine, or performance-critical infrastructure. A language keyword alone does not qualify it.

The taxonomy

Eight sub-domains. The three-letter code in every part number is the classification, not decoration. A role can touch several sub-domains, and most do — but it is filed under exactly one, the one its own title says it is, so a sub-domain page holds the roles that are actually about that sub-domain.

Who runs it

Built and operated by Larry Xue. A role that says “Confirmed by a person” was confirmed by Larry; everything else states that a rule set classified it.
